Digital Games versus Video Games…

Is there a difference in terms? A wrong or right one? What do people think?

For my final, I think I’m essentially arguing for an academic focus on “digital play” instead of “digital games”, but I want to make sure I’m using the terms properly. It seems like people are calling them all digital games these days and just distinguishing between console and computer games as needed.

I think this is a very good question. When I read the post, one thing I thought about was the revised forms of board games which are coming out, especially the DVD connected ones. I would not say that SceneIt is a ‘video’ game, but it certainly is a digital one. How about the versions of Life and Monopoly which use a ‘credit card’ and reader instead of money. Or the DVD assisted Clue? These seem, to me, to not be video games, but require the digital, and are at least hybrids.
